If you have a website, there is a high chance it falls into one of the following three categories:

  • Blog
  • Portfolio
  • Website with information or products

And if so, maximizing your traffic is going to maximize your sales and your visibility. There are so many ways that you can improve your traffic. Of course, one of the first things you should look at is working with specialist SEO management services. This is a sure-fire way to get your ranking and your site in good order.

But you can do other things too.

Once you have your great content, there is nothing worse than letting it sit there in the hopes that someone happens upon it. You need to make your content work for you. And, that means sharing. Promoting your content on your social media will make it more visible. Using the right hashtags will move your content beyond the people that follow you. Twitter is great for using your short and snappy wit. Whereas on Facebook, you can entice people with a bit more copy. Either way, eyecatching graphics are a must.

While this might come under social media, LinkedIn has now become a place to post your articles to get hundreds and occasionally thousands of eyes on them. It is the world’s largest professional social networking site and is now valued as a publishing platform too. If you have a moderate following, you can create a community of people who appreciate the content you write – and are more likely to share it with their own network too.

You should have headlines that grab attention. Something that tells the ready either what they will get, or entices them in with a cliffhanger. Although many people still use clickbait titles, and they may work once or twice, people will get bored if you use that tactic. You can use Hubspot to generate 250 titles around a specific keyword, you do have to sign up for them to be sent to your inbox. You can get ten on the spot, though.

There are a few headlines that tend to really get readers to your door:

  • Using the word ‘Best’ – people often search using ‘the best XYZ.’
  • Using the terms ‘What to do when X happens’ – this is useful and again, is something people will type in the search bar
  • Big Lists – the higher the number, the more useful the post will appear
  • Mistakes You Are Making – people like to fix their mistakes, so help them find what needs fixing

Long-Tail Keywords

If you have both your high-intent keywords and your popular keywords covered, then it is time to think long-tail. Long-tail keywords are shown to account got a majority of web searches. So if you don’t currently have them in your SEO efforts, it is time to take a look at how long-tail keywords can benefit you

Internal Linking

If you want someone to spend more time on your website, then give them the tools to do so with internal linking. Link to other content on your blog or website that is relevant. Your internal linking structure should be something you consider when creating your content.

Driving traffic to your blog, website, or portfolio is something that you can build over time. And, another great way to get more traffic is pitch ideas to other blogs that you read and enjoy too.
